Why are there so many perverts on the damn internet?

I'm sick and tired of them...because of perverts on xanga and myspace my internet is getting taken away by my mom..she thinks the internet is going to get me raped. i understand that shes worried about me..but just because i go on the internet doesnt mean a man is going to pop out of nowhere and rape me.

Why are there so many perverts on the damn internet?
Because it's easy to hide behind a computer screen name.

Reply:Yeah it's unfortunate but the world is full of perverts and sickos and I don't know why they don't enforce their rules better. You could think of it this way: When someone is driving in a big city, they would be careful what streets they drove and avoid dangerous areas so they stay safe. It's the same with the internet, you need to be very careful where you go and who you talk to.
Reply:the pervs are on the internet because they are too ugly to get laid in person.
Reply:There are perverts EVERYWHERE... they're just more prevalent on the internet because of the anonymous identity people can have. Your Mom is protecting you from possible horrendous harm. Respect her wishes. Offer to only use the internet with her in the room so she can see that you are safe %26amp; on safe sites.
Reply:The Internet is a way of looking for and capturing their prey, which could be you. They have a very persuasive way of getting what they want. Your mother is correct to some degree, but she should monitor what is going on with you and the Internet. There are way of monitoring what is going on and she should look into it, not stop your usage. You need to be just as careful in what you do on the Internet. You don't know everything (yet), but you are learning. I just don't want you to become another victim of one of these perverts.
Reply:I don't think there's more perverts on the internet than in society in general. The internet just allows them to express their perversions in anonymity. Have your mom monitor what you do instead of taking away the internet. Even with the dangers, internet communication offers the ability ot get opinions and input from many different viewpoints and personalities, something that just isn't possible otherwise.
Reply:Of course, it isn't that easy. But it becomes gradual over time. What if a guy ask you to take off your socks for $100 bucks? Very simple request, but then they start raising the amount. Then next thing you know, you are fully naked in front of a camera making thousands a week. This type of thing happen to this boy on the Oprah Winfrey show.


Your mom knows best, just try to listen to her. To help this process, think about what you would say to your little daughter that wants the same thing. What lengths would you go to keep her safe?

Your Mom is reacting to all this negative press that shows like "Dateline" have blown out of proportion. They make it seem like every other person you might talk to on the internet is some 55 year old 300 pound guy who likes 14 year old girls. Sure, they're out there...but not as prevalent as they say and it's not like there are teenage girls lining up to meet strangers off the internet.

Reply:i understand where your mum is coming from - i have put a net nanny on my sons computer and it gives me piece of mind when he is on and also still lets him have his freedom to surf away
Reply:Your mom is right...these people are clever and very dangerous. They prey on the internet because it's a good way for them to suck you in.Listen to your Mother and stay away from those type of sites.
Reply:There are bad people everywhere you go. If you learn the basics of keeping yourself safe, they work if you are out on the street or surfing the internet. For example, you don't go up to a total stranger on the street and give him your name and address, do you. So don't do it on the internet either. Didn't your mother ever tell you, "don't talk to strangers"?

Reply:The perverts are on the intenet instead of in your bushes. Just don't share any personal information on the internet and you shouldn't have hardly any peverts after you. Just don't give them enough information to find you or harrass you.
Reply:May I suggest that you try to understand 'where your Mother is coming from'? It may well be that she has either been abused, or is close to someone who has been ... %26amp; so is that much more determined to protect you. It isn't something that is easily (if ever) forgotten! It often leaves life-long emotional scars that affect one's daily life %26amp; relationships ADVERSELY... for years, %26amp; even decades. So, please appreciate that she loves you, %26amp; that you are one of the fortunate few to have a caring Mother. Thank her for her concern, %26amp; cooperate with her wishes. A good relationship with your Mother is far more important than many with strangers on the Internet!

Reply:definitely right! i hate that tthere are pervs in the world period. jus wensday, i was watching dateline, and i dont appreciate how unsafe the US is. instead of wasting time on a senseless war, why dont we put more money and time toward making the US safer!

Reply:There are not many perverts on the internet. It is just that many people who behave normal in real life are daring only to show their pervertness over the internet. Its 'coz they feel that their identity is not revealed.(which is sadly untrue.)


Tell ur mom.. if u wanna get spoilt, u can get spoilt anywhere. not necessarily on the internet. Trust me.., this is effective. I told this to my mom 8 years ago, to convince her to let me use the internet.
